Gastric Bypass  |  2009 My Life Before Bariatric Surgery Before weight loss surgery, I was reluctant to participate in activities.  I tired easily and did not feel good about the way I looked.  I always felt that I had to work harder to earn people's respect because of the weight issue.

Making the Decision

The "final straw" came when I had to shop for suits at the "Big and Tall store. I was humiliated. The salesperson was terrific and treated me well, but I was mortified that I was there in the first place. I went to my doctor and said, "Just tell me what I need to do." He asked if I had considered bariatric surgery (I had not) and recommended Barix Clinics. After one consultation appointment at Barix, I was ready to commit. Less than six months later I was on the road to a new, and more fulfilling life.

I was grateful for the dignity and high level of expertise that is part of the culture at Barix Clinics. Staff were compassionate and attentive before and after surgery. I was also amazed at how much they remembered about me when I returned a few months later. They take an interest in everyone; you feel like you are a member of a larger family.

How My Life Has Changed

My weight loss journey has been a turning point in my life. I am healthier, more confident, and more willing to engage in social activities.

I find that I have much more energy; I am willing to "get out there" more often. I am more confident in my role as school principal and in social situations. I don't know if people treat me differently, or if it is just perception, but it feels like I don't have to compensate for my weight anymore. I can just be myself.

I also enjoy shopping for clothes and have had lots of opportunities as the weight continued to disappear!
